We want to say a massive congratulations to BAFTA award winning actor Ralph Fiennes for being presented with the Empire Legend Award at the 20th Jameson Empire Awards on Sunday.
You may know his from his most famous roles including the infamous villain, ‘Lord Voldemort’ in the Harry Potter film series, ‘Amon Goeth’ in Steven Spielberg’s Schindler’s list and (our favourite) ‘Gustave H’ in Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel. He also will reprise his role as ‘M’ in the next Bond film and has even directed his own films such as ‘The Invisible Woman’.
He said ‘I’m not (a legend). I said in my speech that the ‘L’ word is for dead people…I’m flattered, but it’s not the case. It’s lovely but you’ve got to bat it away with appreciation because I don’t feel like a legend for a moment…It’s all other people that make us look good.”
Morgan Rees, Empire’s Editor-In-Chief said: “When you look at the body of work he has given us, both on screen and behind the camera, he has achieved so much. I can’t think of anyone who deserves this award more. Ralph Fiennes is truly an Empire Legend.”
Other british winners included Rosamund Pike for best female actress for her chilling appearance in Gone Girl as Amy Dunne as well as Karen Gillian winning best female newcomer for her roles in Guardians of the Galaxy and Oculus.
