Appearing on this months cover of Esquire Magazine entitled ‘Nobody Does It Better’ is British actor, Idris Elba. The scene is set, and the interview and photo shoot takes place in The Shard. Elba is tired but still functioning and the magazine go straight in defending the actor from the outset, highlighting how understated his talents are, listing out his extensive resume as an actor, DJ, musician, writer and entrepreneur.
It’s true, Elba has been a part of over 40 movies during his career, five of which will be released in 2016 – so why does everyone jump to his defense when it comes to him as an actor? One thing is for sure, he doesn’t blame it on the #OscarsSoWhite like a lot of other actors. In fact, he would have loved to attend, comparing the Oscars to Christmas, but unfortunately he admits that he was not invited.
On the topic of Bond, Idris gets defensive and it becomes apparent from the interview that the subject has been exhausted, however Esquire go in for the kill and manage to get the truth out. The actor admits that he isn’t up for the role of Bond, despite rumors that he has met with Barbara Broccoli, the producer in charge of the James Bond phenomenon, ending the discussion on the topic with,”Exactly! In other words, it doesn’t matter how many people want me to do it. It doesn’t mean I’m going to get it,” so it sounds like that’s that folks.
You can catch the actor in his latest action film, Bastille Day, which premieres in UK cinemas 22nd April.
