British driver Louis Hamilton has won his second world championship in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and has become one of only three other British drivers to have achieved this (Jackie Stewart, Jim Clark and Graham Hill).
Hamilton has been battling with his Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg all season and with Rosberg beating him in qualifying it was hard to say who would come out on top at then end of the race. From the first lap Hamilton showed his determination to win as he overtook Rosberg shortly after the race started. Rosberg put up a good fight but had engine trouble which meant he finished in 14th and decided he wanted to finish the race instead of go into the pits as his team suggested. Felipe Massa came in second place meaning he finished 7th in the championship and Valterri Bottas came in at third meaning he finished 4th in the championship.
We are sending a massive well done to Hamilton for his win meaning he won the championship by 67 points. Prince Harry was there to congratulate Louis over the team radio saying ‘Louis, you are a legend’ and his long time girlfriend Nicole Scherzinger flew over with his family to support him.
Both Hamilton and Roseberg are expected to stay with Mercedes next season and Hamilton has said “I definitely don’t feel I am looking for a new challenge. We have a year to go, so there’s no particular rush but this is my home and I’m very happy here.” We are already looking forward to next season starting in March 2015.
