Seasons come and seasons go but there are always going to be wardrobe staples that whatever the season you will grab time and time again. A good wardrobe doesn’t need to be a full-to-busting wardrobe, but it does need to contain some of the essentials that every well dressed man just has at his fingertips.
So what are these essential items for the perfect wardrobe?
Jeans – do these need looking at do you think? We think everyone needs to revisit their jeans now and again, even if you have many. How long have you had them? Are they baggy in the crotch or knee? Can you actually tell what colour they were originally? If you can identify with any of this then you need a rethink. Take a look at these Blue Denim Rainbow Jeans by Edwin Jeans at Liberty, £145, to update your jeans and your style. They have a classic shape and can be teamed with a smart jacket or a jumper to dress down for a more casual look.
Also consider taking a look at Parisian fashion house, APC for a shot of urban style.
Belt – a decent belt is a must in any well thought out wardrobe. Forget logos – a definitely no-no and forget Hermes H on the buckle too. Look for a simple design with good quality leather. We like this £75 belt from Polo by Ralph Lauren – designer without the heavy handed logo.
Perfect T Shirt – preferably white, preferably really good quality cotton. Sunspel make the perfect white T as far as we are concerned and at 100% Egyptian cotton it will last for ages.
Casual jacket – one that will last style wise but is right in every setting. We are thinking a classic Belstaff is the way to go and it will live for many years so is well worth the investment. The current Spring/Summer collection is all about the style of the British racers of the sixties – so it’s a style that has been around a while and certainly isn’t going anywhere fast.
Shoes – a decent smart pair for those days when elegance is needed and a classically casual pair for everyday style that won’t go out of style. We are talking Churches shoes for handmade elegance – okay it will be an investment but they age beautifully (getting better and better) and they state that you are a man with style. Alternatively for classically casual you need look no further than a pair of Chelsea boots. There are lots around with a wide variety of price points so shop around to find the style and colour that suits your wardrobe.
Before we go, there are a couple of rules that even if you aren’t wanting to invest in your wardrobe you might want to take into account when putting together an outfit. Patterned socks are so unnecessary and please wear knee highs to cover hairy legs when your trousers ride up – short socks underneath trousers are a real turn off. As are no socks with a loafer shoe – it’s all just trying too hard.
